Every now and then, a new diet phase evolves for people to try out. A lot of these are
nonsense and then there is the other half which develop due to medical and science
developments.
It was only a while ago when the low fat diet was the thing to be trying which then soon grew out of
date leading to the low carb diet or the famous Atkins diet.
Again, like most diet phases that eventually dissolve, it is easy to forget that pasta was a crucial element
for athlete's in terms of an excellent energy supply, which is of course full of
carbs.
We have already talked about fat within this site and how
it is necessary for natural optimal health, but we also know that there are many different types of fat
from which many are harmful to us, an example being 'trans fats', within many snack foods. We also
know to avoid saturated fats or to much cholesterol. In a nut shell, cutting out fat completely is a big NO,
but monetizing it effectively is the goal, i.e. low amounts of fat.

A very famous fitness guru known as Susan Powter
lost more than a hundred pounds due to the low fat
approach coupled with a lot of exercise. She claimed that she
consumed more than 3000 calories per day which in total is about 300% more
recommended for a woman, but maintained her skinny body. How? What is the
secret to her success? She simply ate no food that had more than 30% of
their calories in the form of fat. In her diet, she actually kept the fat
percentage down to approximately ten to fifteen percent.
Susan claimed 'fat makes
you fat! Isn't that why they call it fat?' She does have a valid point, doesn't
she?
This seems a bit controversial as she claims that you
can eat all the breads or pasta's you want when in fact people know to stay
away from that to reduce fat intake, especially if it is white bread or
pasta.

Also, simple carbohydrates raise your body’s glycemic level, which provokes an
insulin response and has been proven to lead to weight gain, particularly around the stomach, where it
puts you at risk for diabetes and heart disease.
So, with all this chat and talk, what is the underlying
secret?
Limit fat whilst making good choices with carbohydrates. Whole grains are highly
recommended by the experts and nutritionists. Replace your white sources of carbs such as white bread with
whole grain would be healthier.
Overall though it does seem impossible to eat 3 times your recommended calorie intake and
still lose weight. This would only be possible if you were extremely active on the verge of collapse.
But if you do decide to explore the low fat approach it certainly won't do you any harm. Simply have all the
low fat versions of your favourite foods.
For example, instead of buying the pre packed frozen pizzas for instance, make your own.
Not only will this be better for you but it is a lot of fun and lets face it, there are many more options
that you could do with the pizza when creating it yourself.
Now, as always, try and get used to fruit and vegetables. If you can conquer this, then
you are half way there; as you will reduce your fat intake considerably and overtime you won't even miss the
low fat foods as your body will be completely rid of them reducing the cravings.
To conclude,
low fat, whole grain, fruit and vegetables and throw in a bit of exercise.
