Weight Loss Herbs

Herbs is an old traditional way to help lose weight however there are many different kinds and sometimes it can be so overwhelming that you just don’t have the time to research or bother about them. Another aspect is people do not respect the ability of weight loss herbs.

An example of this would be the Hoodia herb, which we have also discussed in the weight loss pill section, but as we know it is a herb before conversion into a pill. This herb works by killing your appetite thus making you eat less and generally reducing your overall calorie intake.

Many herbs are known as thermogenics, which we touched upon in within the fat burner section that facilitate the speeding up of the digestive system and heart rates. These various herbs including green tea, nettle tea and dandelion tea usually consist of caffeine.

The herbs that have minimal effect are known as diuretics

Green tea and dandelion are within this bunch as is buchu and birch. These herbs work by reducing the water within your body, thus dehydrating your body. This effect will return to normal as soon as you stop taking them as the body will re-hydrate itself.

On the other hand, there are herbs that are available but very dangerous to the individual. When purchasing you will be provided with precautions for use and dosage and such herbs are otherwise known as laxatives and Ephedra (now banned).

Herbal like laxatives include aloe, cascara sagrada, rhubarb root, buckthorn and senna which can induce serious cases of diarrhoea and cramping. Over time they will induce muscle weakness within the digestive tract causing them to lose power and inhibit peristaltic movement through the bowels.

Ephedra over stimulates the (CNS) inducing increases in heart rate and blood pressure. I’m sure you could guess that this is not ideal for a long term plan. Even the FDA have warned against products containing this as possible outcomes may result in depression, heart attacks & murmurs, seizures, dehydration, anxiety, chest pain.

The better choices for healthy herbs would include the following:

Cayenne - Thermogenics herb and helps to elevate metabolism rates and aid digestion. This is due to an ingredient known as capsaicin.

Green tea - The primary fat loss aspect in this is caffeine. It behaves similar to coffee except it has the additional benefits of having antioxidant's & Vitamin C.

Seaweed - This is an excellent source of minerals containing chromium that stimulates your thyroid inducing a quickening of your metabolic rate. These are available in 'kelp capsules' for easy taking or you can enjoy them as sushi or even right out of a bag.

I know these are pretty common products but you should be careful or even consult a doctor first as many people react to them in different ways. For example, green tea isn't good for anxiety problems and seaweed is possibly dangerous for people with Grave’s disease.
